Backed by the people-power of crowd funding ’52 ARTISTS 52 ACTIONS’ is a new program from Sydney’s Artspace which commissions an artist from Australia or Asia to create a new work. Spanning one year, 52 artists will address political and social issues in the form of an ‘action’ in their local community. Artspace Director Alexie Glass-Kantor elaborated that the project is “a democratic means of sharing, connecting and engaging artists and audiences with critical contemporary issues”. Some participants have been announced including Richard Bell, Deborah Kelly and Vernon Ah Kee as well as presentations from Tromarama, Indonesia, Anida Yoeu Ali, Cambodia, Hit Man Gurung, Nepal and Young-Hae Chang Heavy Industries, South Korea.
