Bill Henson: Landscapes

‘Bill Henson: Landscapes’ captures the haunting convergence of opposites; two worlds, darkness and light. An exhibition of landscape works that connect the macroscopic threads of human existence to the microscopic emotions of the individual, occupying a ‘between space’ of contrasting forces. These major works are presented as an immersive installation, and through these landscapes, Henson connects us to a collective history, exploring complicated notions of temporality at the vanishing point between darkness and light.

This exhibition is the first of its kind at Castlemaine Art Gallery and complements the gallery’s permanent collection with its focus on the Australian landscape genre. The collection includes works from the mid-colonial period to the present by artists such as Louis Buvelot, Frederick McCubbin, Fred Williams, Lina Bryans, Philip Wolfhagen and Rick Amor.
