Chuck Close is one of America’s most eminent artists. He emerged as a painter in 1960s New York with large-scale photo-realist portraits. To coincide with ‘Chuck Close – Prints, Process and Collaboration’ at the MCA, this exhibition presents a selection of Close’s portraits and self-portraits, employing a variety of print-making methods such as woodblocks, linocuts and pulp paper works.
Some of these prints have over 200 colours, taking over a year to realise and some are nearly two metres tall. These are all extraordinary feats of printmaking skill, but they are equally the work of a great artist at home with his subject and always ready to push the boundaries.
