Hiromi Tango: Promised

Hiromi Tango’s ‘Promised’ explores the separation and suffering; broken promises and broken relationships that define us all through a dynamic new series of wall and floor sculptures and neon light boxes. Built on memories and emotions in the form of donated textiles and hand-stitched artist books, there is a therapeutic and mnemonic quality to the works, and the ensuing catalysis of feeling forms the affective crux of Tango’s art.

Drawing from the practice of colour light therapy, the artist has created tear-shaped light boxes to soothe and comfort the viewer, while a large sculptural heart assemblage becomes a symbolic site of memory, pain and emotion.
