Jan Hook: Branching Out

Jan Hook has used her extensive knowledge of basketry to create a unique sculptural installation referencing the forms of birds and nests, which encapsulate the artist’s feelings towards the individual paths that her grandchildren will take on their journey through life.

Of her sculptures in this exhibition Hook says, “Using a variety of materials I decided to represent my seven grandchildren as birds portraying them as dependent beings in the nest to flying free as young people – the journey we all take.”

Hook is an accomplished artist, a proficient painter whose subject matter also includes still life, portraits and miniatures and works across different mediums and art forms.
