Presented by Perimeter Books, ‘The Art of Publishing: An Exhibition of MACK Books‘ traces the history of the London-based art book publisher, MACK.
Founded in 2010, MACK is an independent publishing house and a leading producer of contemporary and historical photography books highlighting areas of interest and long-term relationships with artists such as Bertien van Manen, Paul Graham, Thomas Demand, Adam Broomberg + Oliver Chanarin, Collier Schorr, Torbjørn Rødland, Roe Ethridge, Tacita Dean and Alec Soth.
‘The Art of Publishing: An Exhibition of MACK Books’ brings together their volumes and special editions – many of which are rare and previously unseen in Australia – alongside original prints and explorations into digital publishing and the complete MACK catalogue.
Most volumes are presented as physical objects to be held, handled and read, giving prominence to the book as an artwork in itself.
‘The Art of Publishing: An Exhibition of MACK Books’ opens at the Centre for Contemporary Photography on Friday 5 January, 6-8pm followed by a ticketed lecture and gallery tour by Michael Mack titled ‘A Serpentine Progression’ on Saturday 6 January, 2pm, and ticketed portfolio reviews with Michael Mack and Perimeter co-director Dan Rule on Sunday 7 January.
A conversation with Dan Rule and Michael Mack about MACK’s publishing outputs and philosophies will take place at Books Kinokuniya in Sydney on Wednesday 10 January at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. RSVP either in-store, by phone (02) 9262-7996, or by emailing promotions-aus@kinokuniya.com
