Rosslynd Piggott to curate Murmur: The Johnston Collection

The Johnston Collection recently announced Melbourne-based artist, Rosslynd Piggott, as the guest-curator of their annual ‘house of ideas’ Fairhall tour.

It was the wish of antique dealer Johnston Collection benefactor, William Johnston, that his East Melbourne home, Fairhall, be regularly curated and opened for display. In the ‘house of ideas’ series, which oversees the rearrangement and display of the collection, past guest curators have included fashion designer, Akira Isogawa, architect, Pascale Gomes McNabb and fashion-house, Romance Was Born. The ‘house of ideas’ offers creative professionals an opportunity to reinterpret William Johnston’s collection in new ways.

Piggott is well-known for her exquisite ethereal paintings and multi-media installations as well as her work on collaborative projects with galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. In her curation of the collection, Piggott has assembled objects by way of recollecting memories of William Johnston and how he lived in the house.

Piggott will add to the history of the building and its artefact by incorporating some of her own still and moving images as remembrances and responses to Johnston’s life, collection and garden. This element continues an underlying theme of her work where she creates “both a conciliation and acknowledgement of the spirits who have lived there”, she says.

The Johnston Collection, incorporating Fairhall house-museum, Gallery, Reference Library and Shop is a hidden treasure in the heart of Melbourne.
