The Twenty Melbourne Painters Society Inc. (TMPS) was established in 1918 by a strong-willed and rebellious group of artists with a view to mounting annual exhibitions of members’ work.
Over nine decades later the society’s aesthetic remains firmly grounded in classical disciplines, recognising that the pictorial elements of tone, form, colour and drawing, are vital prerequisites of fine painting. Accordingly, the society continues to champion the principles of traditional, representational painting. TMPS members embrace a wide variety of approaches, media and subject matter.
