The disparate textural layers of Aggregates in Construct blend the myriad forms and patterns of nature marked by the boundaries of human action. Ari Athans’ stacked, sculptural arrangements flow between the handmade, organic and industrial, marking the liminal points where the landscape rests upon and collides with the built world.
These impressions of the landscape and its detritus link the material world to the psychological self. As with earth, we are transformed, moved and shaped. Within constant material and psychological change, this fractured process of transformation links the exterior and interior — aggregations formed of the lithic and personal intertwined.
