BEAMS Arts Festival

The laneways of Sydney’s historical Chippendale will again be illuminated with colour, form, movement and sound for one night only this September. The BEAMS Arts Festival, hosted by the Chippendale Creative Precinct, will return for its fourth year, in what has become one of Sydney’s favourite block parties and festivals. The program for 2015 will deliver an abundance of talent across many disciplines with a focus on the high calibre of creatives coming together to create the ultimate street bash.

The festival will be held on Saturday 19 September from 5pm-10pm, along Balfour Street, Little Queen Street, Kensington Street and the surrounding laneways of Chippendale, as well as in the ‘Chippendale Green’ public park (located in the Central Park development). A colourful and engaging spectacle suitable for all ages, the festival has become one of the most highly anticipated events on Sydney’s arts and cultural calendar since its inception in 2012.

This multi-disciplinary arts festival showcases work from the whole spectrum of the arts and this year it promises an ever bigger, brighter festival, coinciding with the International Year of Light, an initiative that aims to raise global awareness about the pivotal role that light plays in our daily lives. Stroll through the art-filled laneways of Chippendale and experience a night of communal ‘enlightenment’ and take an opportunity to directly participate through hands-on art-making, workshops and plein air performances.

“Incorporating the Kensington Street lifestyle precinct for the first time this year, BEAMS will feature a kaleidoscope of visual and performance art installations incorporating sculpture, light, video, animation, live dance and theatre”, says Festival Director, Nicky Ginsberg.

“Food features high on the agenda at BEAMS with some of the local Chippendale eateries showcasing their finest wares. Live music featuring Australia’s best and brightest talent co curated by King Sound Studios and including the elite of Triple J Unearthed and the Australian Institute of Music in this year’s stellar line-up” said Ginsberg.

PHENOMENA sets the theme for this year’s vibrant and eclectic program, reflecting the phenomena of Chippendale itself; from industrial beginnings to a contemporary scene, re-imagining the possibilities of the city through collaborative imagination.
