Bruce Rowe: Ascend

Esteemed Australian architect and ceramicist Bruce Rowe continues to explore haptics and form with this latest body of work, ‘Ascend’, which includes stairs, voids, gateways, corridors and paths of various scale. While the pieces are technically exact and highly resolved, like much of Rowe’s captivating creations, they have a paradoxically poetic resonance.

Through multiple viewpoints, Rowe’s intimate artwork invites the viewer to look closely, cross thresholds and to be curious about the mysterious and unknowable. It suggests ever-changing movement toward a source or beginning.

Rowe’s process is intuitive, contemplative and rhythmic. His sculptures radiate highly skilled craftmanship and presence, yet each work also involves thoughtful planning and technical execution in its construction and realisation. Sculpture has an inherent connection with time and the works in Ascend have required more than a year to complete in the studio. All works in Ascend are authenticated and signed and each work is unique, hand built and custom glazed.
