Elena Papanikolakis

Sydney-based artist Elena Papanikolakis’ practice considers the abstraction and suggestion of narrative. Papanikolakis presents new and recent paintings informed by memories, value systems and Greek mythologies and artefacts; these small-scale works attempt to reconcile grand cultural narratives with contemporary migrant experience. Featuring paintings that span figuration and abstraction, works in the exhibition depict ancient Greek sacred sites alongside references to the family home and life, as well as paintings that explore artefacts through adaptation, magnification and abstraction.
