Emerging from Darkness: Faith, Emotion and The Body in The Baroque

Emerging from Darkness presents over seventy iconic paintings by Baroque masters Peter Paul Rubens, Bartolomeo Manfredi, Guercino, Valentin de Boulogne, and others, including women painters Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia Fontana and Sofonisba Anguissola, who added a unique and rare female perspective to this powerful and striking art movement. This collection of historical pieces is exhibited alongside works by contemporary artists Robyn Stacey and Angela Tiatia, active in the baroque style today. A highlight is Rubens’ religious and mythological masterpieces, royal portraits, eroticism, evocative landscapes, and brutal battle scenes.
