Evan Salmon: Plein Air paintings and works on paper

This recent body of work by Evan Salmon is inspired from his time observing and painting in the Port Kembla dockyards. Salmon explains in an artist statement, “steams and flames against the backdrop of the escarpment. Everything seems to be painted iron red, olive green, industrial grey, Blue Scope blue”.

Following his intuition, and painting that which is in front of him at the time, Salmon has captured the small and flailing industry township as it is today; “if I’m lucky I’ll start to feel that I’m finding my way and trust my instincts towards its conclusion”.
