For twenty-five years Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) has fulfilled its mission of supporting Australia’s next generation of contemporary artists, or ‘hatchlings’, and their experimental art practices through an annual survey exhibition.
‘Hatched: National Graduate Show’ showcases 34 of the nation’s most promising art graduates. This year’s exhibition outlines their personal and political concerns with explorations of gender, sexuality and culture. Architecture, geometry and the relationship between the human body and the built environment are strong themes with many works taking the form of installations or structures, with photography a prominent medium.
