Image, Interrupted considers the ways in which the data generated image is troubled by artistic strategies of deflection, disruption and subterfuge. New and recent works by Australian and Aotearoa/New Zealand artists Nicholas Aloisio-Shearer, Kiera Brew Kurec, Xanthe Dobbie, Ash Garwood, Maya Kilic, and Ella Sutherland – across photography, painting, textile, and video – reveal loopholes in the technologies that shape image-making today. In these works, data is used as a material, a subject and a non-human collaborator and reveals its effect on politics, storytelling, the environment, warfare, and sex.
