‘ATTACK’ revisits the night of 31 May, 1942 – when three Japanese midget submarines entered Sydney Harbour. The surprise attack resulted in chaos and panic on the nation’s largest and oldest city, leaving an indelible mark on Australia.
Commissioned by Mosman Art Gallery for the 70th anniversary of the attack, Done has produced a series of 14 descriptive and evocative paintings exploring the historical events and their impact on Australian society. It’s a sensitive body of work that deals with themes of empire, death, destruction and honour.
