Michelle Hamer: I’m A Believer

Michelle Hamer’s I’m A Believer confronts the dismissive language surrounding chronic health issues while exploring gendered language, access, and erasure.

Original letters, ethically contributed by patients and medical professionals from around the world, have been redacted, retaining official formatting and scanned decay to expose delegitimising wording that casts doubt or
disbelief on symptoms. Through its compelling narrative and symbolic resonance, I’m A Believer invites a deep reflection on the urgent need for empathy, understanding and change in addressing women’s health.

The exhibition comprises a series of silkscreens and monoprints plus a selection of handstitched works, created from redacted letters, MRI/CT scans of body anomalies and glitches exploring the layering of screens and language.
