Sculpture at Scenic World’s (Blue Mountains Sydney) fifth major sculpture exhibition starts 8 April and runs until 8 May. It sees 33 artists transforming the natural Jurassic rainforests with 29 world-class sculptures. The exhibition also extends to include ‘Sculpture Otherwise’ at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, and ‘Rock On’, an outdoor exhibition of artworks in stone that can be viewed at the Scenic World forecourt, the Carrington Hotel, the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, the Hydro Majestic Hotel, and Braemar Gallery, Springwood.
Going through a rigorous review process, the final 29 works were selected by Dr Felicity Fenner, the Director of UNSW Galleries and renowned curator of contemporary art, Michael Snelling, Director of the National Art School, and Claire Healy, visual artist and founding member of the Imperial Slacks artist run initiative. The 29 works are a mix of sculptural and installation mediums by local, interstate and international artists.
Artists include: Lucy Barker, Mark Booth, Fleur Brett, Jonathon Bolitho & Harry Hock, Elin & Keino, Tunni Kraus, Louis Pratt, Vena Vandora and others.
At the exhibition opening on Friday 8 April the awards for the $20,000 Scenic World Major Award, $5,000 Artist Peer Award, $2,000 Scenic World Staff Choice Award and $1,000 Carrington Hotel People’s Choice Award will be announced.
Scenic World’s Joint Managing Director, David Hammon on the Sculpture Prize says, “We’re really proud of the success of the Sculpture exhibition and how it ties in with local community activities and encourages people to explore our region while enjoying world-class art in a pretty special setting.”
