Trevor Turbo Brown paints with directness, energy and focus, his subject is the outdoor world of birds and animals. He explains that this relates to a time when he was homeless, living in Mildura on the banks of the Murray River, at a time the animals were his singular friends.
Born in Mildura in 1967, he has a keen knowledge of the area around the Murray River in northwestern Victoria. His childhood was a great struggle, born with an intellectual disability; he spent much of this time as a homeless youth. Life began to improve when Turbo Brown moved to Melbourne with his adopted family and discovered a talent for painting. “When I paint I feel like I’m in the dreamtime and can see all the animals and birds that live there,” says Turbo Brown.
