Art Almanac, Australia’s longest-running monthly art guide, located in the creative hub of Square One Studios in Alexandria NSW, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as our next National Advertising Manager.

Overview of Art Almanac

Established in 1974, we are Australia’s longest-running monthly art guide and the single print destination for exhibition previews, listings, art services and artist opportunities across the states and territories. In addition, online, we share news and rolling coverage of what’s on.

Celebrating fifty years of publishing, we continue to be shaped by people who engage with art every day. Our team and contributors have experience as artists, in critical writing, working in galleries and festivals, design, teaching, digital media and the curatorial field.

Our practice supports the sustainability of our arts community in all its forms serving established and emerging artists, commercial and not-for-profit galleries, and a readership of all ages.

Art Almanac magazine is owned by Bandicoot Publishing Pty Ltd.

 

Overview of the Position

This is an established position within an inclusive and collaborative team of five people at Art Almanac. The purpose of the position is to be responsible for advertising sales and marketing strategies, aiding in the delivery of a monthly national art guide, in print and online. The position reports to the Editor, Art Almanac.

‣ Develop, implement, and manage advertising strategies to achieve agreed print and digital sale targets.
‣ Ensure successful administration of all copy to meet our monthly production schedule.
‣ Upload and monitor digital advertising placements on our website, social media channels and Art Almanac iPhone app.
‣ Assist in the development and delivery of marketing and brand campaigns.
‣ Establish and maintain great relationships with clients. You will regularly be required to visit galleries, attend exhibition openings, and participate in art fairs or similar events.
‣ Coordinate work efforts with members of the advertising team to ensure productivity and efficiency in building a client base and increasing revenue.

 

Key Selection Criteria

‣ Thorough knowledge of the arts industry including an understanding of the needs of gallerists, artists and the community.
‣ Experience in the development, implementation, and management of advertising packages to achieve agreed print and digital sale targets.
‣ Understand design and marketing principles and techniques with the ability to research and develop strategies based on industry trends and developments.
‣ Excellent project management skills; balancing the needs of different clients, prioritising workload, delivering to deadlines, and managing budgets.
‣ Proven experience in engaging with a diverse range of people.
‣ Work in accordance with the principles of equity, access, and fairness. Respect WHS work practices and procedures; work with due care and consideration to safeguard your own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
‣ Demonstrated commitment to the principles and application of Equal Employment Opportunities, Anti-discrimination legislation and Occupational Health and Safety legislation in the workplace.

 

The Ideal Candidate will…

‣ Love the arts. Tertiary qualifications in visual art or fine art / art history, or a solid understanding of and professional experience working in the arts industry is essential.
‣ Have high-level communication and organisational skills with an aptitude for creative and innovative thinking to deliver the best results for the company as well as our clients.
‣ Thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to pivot and multi-task.
‣ Have experience with or willingness to learn the following programs: Google Ad Manager, Filemaker Pro, OneSignal and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

 

Terms and Conditions of Contract

This is a part-time (4 days / week), ongoing contract.

Appointment will be conditional on an initial two-month probationary period; thereafter, termination by either party will require written notice of one month.

Commencing immediately 2025.
