The finalists for the 2013 Moran Prizes, the most significant, independent Australian Art Prize, were announced in Sydney on October 18, 2013, from a record field of national entries. Moran Prizes supports the arts with a combined total of AUD$300,000 in monies and prizes awarded to winners and finalists nationally across a range of categories.
For the past 25 years the Moran Arts Foundation has supported Australian photographers and artists with money and prizes each year. The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize has encouraged excellence and creativity in contemporary Australian portraiture. The current annual prize for the DMNPP stands at $150,000 for first place and $10,000 for the runner-up. The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize is a national competition to promote the country’s contemporary photography talents. The current annual prize for the MCPP prize stands at $50,000 for first place and a further $50,000 to be shared between the runner-ups. Schools and students will share a prize pool of $20,000 in monies and camera equipment.
