Arcangelo Sassolino: in the end, the beginning

Italian sculptor Arcangelo Sassolino is known for complex kinetic works, automata and installations. In his first Australian solo exhibition, Mona presents a selection of kinetic sculptures that push matter to their edges – from dripping metal to splintering wood.

The titular work sees one of the Museum’s subterranean galleries showered with molten steel. As the liquid metal – heated to 1500°C – drips from the ceiling, it creates dramatic firelight sparks. The work reimagines the artist’s Diplomazija astuta, 2022 installation – originally created for the Malta Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale.
