Established as the Bayside Acquisitive Art Prize in 2015 and relaunched in 2024 as the Bayside Painting Prize, this is the only annual prize for painting in Victoria. ‘Painting’ is defined here as a work made with a liquid medium applied to a rigid or semi-rigid support.
Unconstrained by fixed definitions or themes, this year’s finalist exhibition showcases the work of forty-seven artists, both established and lesser-known, whose varied approaches to the painted medium – different surfaces, subject matters, techniques – convey the breadth and diversity of the practice in Australia today.
