MOST: Marrickville Open Studio Trail

Studios, galleries, and artist-run initiatives throw open their doors to the public for one weekend this March for the ‘Marrickville Open Studio Trail’ (MOST). As part of the official 2014 Art Month Sydney program, ‘MOST’ is an opportunity to engage with Marrickville’s thriving independent arts scene, view art in progress, and purchase art at studio prices.

Throughout the weekend, a comprehensive offering of guided tours and hosted events that gives audiences the choice to join a walking tour, a bus journey or a more adventurous bicycle tour!  At each pit stop, audiences will be treated to discussions and insights from the industry professional volunteer guides.

For example, Melinda Vassallo, author of ‘Street Art of the Inner West’, and street artist Dallas Clark will walk audiences through the back lanes of Newtown and Enmore seeking out some of Sydney’s best street art. Riding in tandem with fellow art lovers, cyclists will peek into many creative spaces in Erskineville, St Peters, Sydenham, Marrickville and Arncliffe. And local artist Rebecca Gallo will lead an informal bus tour that will reveal the rich depth of galleries and hidden studios in Marrickville.

Council’s Acting Manager of Culture and Recreation, Caroline McLeod, will take you behind the scenes of Marrickville’s public art and creative spaces, including the Newtown Art Seat and the Chrissie Cotter Gallery. Performance artist and actress, Karli Evans will host the mystery bus tour to some of the area’s hidden creative gems.
