A survey of work from 2007 to 2016 is on show in Sonia Payes’ latest exhibition ‘Parallel Futures’. Including photography, animation, new media and sculpture, the exhibition provides an insight into the transformation of Payes’ 2D photographic imagery into 3D sculptural reality as well as a new body of work, the ‘Woman Series’ that extends the imagery of the four-faced goddess and incarnates her into a metallic warrior.
With themes of regeneration and rebirth, a strong environmental narrative is present that explores the survival of humanity in our rapidly changing environment. Payes contemplates the future of our environment by mirroring the past with the present and portraying a surreal, dystopian glimpse of the future.
