To Nov 8 Stormie Mills: All the secrets are buried between the oceans and the mountains – bringing together a significant body of new and recent works reflecting Mills’s global movements, personal history, and the encounters that have informed his distinctive practice since he first began painting in 1984.
Oct 3 to Jan 31, 2027 No night is long enough for us to dream twice – bringing together contemporary photography and video by nine artists from South West Asia, North Africa, and their diasporas. What connects them is not geography alone, but pressure: a shared relation to sites where forces accumulate, rupture, and return. Artists: Basel Abbas, Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Mohamad Abdouni, Hicham Benohoud, Myriam Boulos, Mohamed Bourouissa, Sabiha Çimen, Hannah Darabi, and Abdulhamid Kircher.

From Oct 17 Tim Burns – The Kinetic Moments – taking inspiration from his single-edition work, Résumé 73-77, Burns’s radical, lifelong interrogation into the art of the possible is unfurled, connected, and examined in this retrospective spanning 1966 to 2026. What best unites Burns’s practice (other than his ‘explosive’ aesthetics) is a mode of working that is ad-hoc, low-tech, socially engaged, entirely deadpan, and variously tongue-in-cheek. This exhibition is his first solo showing in a state art gallery, a celebration of his singular achievements in his home state.
To Feb 21, 2027 Chivalry is dead? is a display of Mediaevalism in material from The State Art Collection. The exhibition highlights the tensions and ambiguities of the code of mediaeval chivalry as it reflects the ways that chivalric and mediaeval imagery reappear during moments of rapid social and technological change.
To Mar 28, 2027 Bill’s PC Presents Nihaal Faizal is a solo presentation of works by the Bangalore-based artist Nihaal Faizal. The exhibition is the artist’s first institutional show in Australia.
To Apr 25, 2027 Bruce Asbestos: Cranky Pants is an interactive exhibition celebrating rebellious emotion and disobedient design. Set within a vivid pop art world of larger-than-life characters, families, and participants of all ages are invited to design hyper-couture costumes and accessories.
To May 2, 2027 Attachment Styles: Modes of Belonging in Modern and Contemporary Art. Bringing together works from the 19th to 21st century, showing how artists have long grappled with the emotional complexity of human relationships between individuals, communities, and the environments they inhabit.
To July 4, 2027 Baked Goods – a display of ceramic works from The State Art Collection, raising questions about the ways we categorise objects and where use ends and art begins. With works by Eileen Keys, Col Levy, Gwyn Hanssen Piggott, Peter Cooley, and many more. The works demonstrate a keen engagement with local materiality and explore systems of exchange in the production of handmade ceramics.
