‘Bauhaus Now: art+design+architecture’ explores the legacy of migration and modernism at the Museum of Brisbane until 18 April 2021. Curated by Andrew McNamara and comprising almost 100 pieces in total, ‘imaginative recreations’ by Brisbane artists will be presented alongside original Bauhaus works; from furniture to design, paintings, printmaking, film, textiles, photography, sculpture, architectural plans and historical imagery, embedded in the sphere of influence the 20th century German movement cast. The exhibition space has been designed to reflect the tenants of the movement by contemporary firms Speculative Architecture and also encircles the migrant and refugee contribution in Australian life and art history during the inter-war and post-Second World War years; for example artist Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack (1893-1965) and iconic Australian architect Harry Seidler (1923-2006).
