Emma Fielden: Coalescence

Emma Fielden’s practice focuses on ideas about infinity, the universe and our place in it. In the video work Coalescence (2019), Fielden’s concrete studio floor transforms into a state of fluidity; drops of ink meet water, creating bubbles which eventually disappear into one singular state of black; a vast and infinite void for the viewer to explore. As two bubbles coalesce, Fielden alludes to the endlessly varied forms of matter and behaviour, from the bonding of two atoms to the collision of vast galaxies.
