Continuing its commitment to providing platforms for cultural exchange and economic opportunity for Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) returns with a vibrant and multifaceted program of events from 6 to 10 July at Cairns Convention Centre and neighbouring venues.
This year’s theme, ‘Masters of Country’, celebrates Queensland First Peoples’ knowledge and resourcefulness of Indigenous plants and trees, reflecting on sacred sites, water preservation, climate change, and intergenerational storytelling. In focus, CIAF 2022 presents the work of hundreds of visual artists and performers via exhibitions, workshops, and demonstrations as well as cultural dance, theatre, fashion, comedy, and film, while opening the floor to conversations, talks, and an industry symposium. All works on display are for sale and eligible for the $50,000 CIAF Art Awards.
