An opening celebration with talks by Abdul Abdullah, Moustafa Fahour and Padmini Sebastian

Moustafa Fahour

For our February exhibition opening celebration, we will be doing something a little different. Upstairs in our Loft Gallery, we will be showing Belle Bassin’s The Terror of n, a suite of exploratortive dream-like drawings. Our Glasshouse Gallery downstairs will play host to Abdul Abdullah’s Mongrel, a series of portraits exploring cross-cultural identity. In addition to the usual drinks and nibbles, Abdul Abdullah will talk about his exhibition. Joining him are guest speakers Padmini Sebastian and Moustafa Fahour

Padmini Sebastian fled the Sri Lankan civil war at the age of 16, arriving in Australia as a refugee in 1984. She is the manager of Museum Victoria’s Immigration Museum.

Moustafa Fahour is the founder and director of Australia’s first Islamic art and history museum, the Islamic Museum of Australia. Last year, Moustafa was awarded Muslim of the Year and Muslim Volunteer of the Year at the Australian Muslim Achievement Awards and was included in the (melbourne) magazine’s Melbourne’s Top 100.
