Adrienne Gaha has sought to find the point where both the image and the paint share equal importance in her exhibition, ‘Vestiges’. Sources for her work are both figurative and landscape, collected randomly but subjectively from postcards, calendars, artworks, books and personal photographs.
It is the impulse to make found images her own and, more specifically, to explore the visual component that attracted her in the beginning. The paintings become the afterimages or ‘vestiges’ of a golden past, such as her childhood memories and then extend more widely into the broader notion of ‘western culture’.
