After four decades, Anna Schwartz has announced a new name and new direction for Anna Schwartz Gallery. The gallery – located in Melbourne’s Flinders Lane – will cease operating in its current form after the conclusion on 13 December of its John Nixon exhibition, Artist of the Monochrome 1968 – 2020, to then reopen in 2026 as a new entity, Anna Schwartz Projects.

Occupying the second level of the same address on Flinders Lane, Anna Schwartz Projects will present a dynamic and occasional roster across forms including installation, music, performance, publishing and talk. Embracing experimental approaches to art practice with a programme that is entirely project and event based, a desire to revitalise the current structure in response to the changing landscape in Australia drove the decision to change the gallery’s focus.
