Art Textile Biennale

The inaugural ‘Art Textile Biennale’ presented by Fibre Arts Australia celebrates contemporary textile practice with a touring exhibition. An extraordinary display of artworks made with cloth, fibre and stitching across traditional and non-traditional art textile techniques showcases a diverse range of stories from intimate personal reflections to current and pressing environmental concerns by 29 artists from 16 countries including Australia. Dates and venues: East Gippsland Art Gallery, Victoria, 22 January to 3 March. Toowoomba Regional Gallery, Queensland, 29 March to 29 May. Barometer Gallery, Sydney, 11 June to 11 July.

Fibre Arts Australia explains, ‘the selected works in this inaugural award pushes previously held notions of textile/fibre, opening a dialogue about what it is to be a textile artist that makes an expression and commentary on content and concept in the 21st century.’
