Barbara Hepworth: In Equilibrium

Barbara Hepworth (1903–1975) is known for her abstract sculptures and pioneering method of “piercing” the form.

Barbara Hepworth: In Equilibrium surveys the artist’s enduring oeuvre and remarkable story with more than forty artworks made of stone, wood, marble, and bronze from early figurative carvings to later large-scale, simplified abstract forms. The exhibition highlights Hepworth’s exploration of the tension between mass and negative space with sculptures punctured by large holes; the relationship between figure and landscape, forms presented side-by-side, colour and texture, and the individual and collective.
