Biomess: The Tissue Culture & Art Project

‘Biomess’ curated by Robert Cook, is a collaborative project between SymbioticA at the University of Western Australia, Western Australian Museum, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Since 1996 the artists Oron Catts and Ionat Zurr have been exploring the relationship between art and science. Today they present oddities from the natural world, ‘Frankensteins’ if you will. This interest in organisms and temporary biological structures complements the festival ‘Unhallowed Arts’ celebrating the 200th year since the publication of Mary Shelley’s gothic horror novel Frankenstein.
