A History of MILS, 2009–2016
Anna Georgia Mackay and Vladimir Kravchenko
MILS | February 2017
After Sydney artist run initiative MILS gallery closed in 2016, Director Adriano Rosselli set out to chronicle their seven-year history with an eponymous book displaying over 400 artworks by 120 artists and two long-form essays by Anna Georgia Mackay and Vladimir Kravchenko. The motivation was to circumvent the ephemeral nature of exhibitions, as in MILS’ words – “we are generally left with only strewn and sporadic traces of their existence. Dispersed amongst different people and places, boxes and hard drives, these material and digital relics become effectively lost, deteriorating or repurposed.”
Designed by artist Irfan Hendrian and produced with two covers, one by Eko Bambang Wisnu, also from Indonesia and the other from Sydney based artist h.j.huwman.
