Christian Thompson: Ritual Intimacy

Christian Thompson: Ritual Intimacy
Edited by Helen Hughes
Monash University Museum of Art

This book discusses Christian Thompson’s recent exhibition ‘Ritual Intimacy’, a survey of works from the past 15 years. Monash University Museum of Art Director Charlotte Day’s introduction shares a glimpse into what inspires Thompson’s performance and photographic concepts and ideas, followed by Brian Catling’s prologue, and an essay by Marina Warner. “‘Ritual Intimacy’ invites the viewer to enter into communion with the artist’s inner world, away from outward show and costume, from the spectacular visual stagings of the artist’s self,” says Warner. Closing with a conversation between Thompson and curator Hetti Perkins, complemented by a rich display of images throughout the title offers a deep understanding of the artist’s individual works and evolving practice.
