This exhibition presents over sixty key works from across Clarice Beckett’s oeuvre ranging from 1919 to the early 1930s, providing a critical representation of the artist’s atmospheric depictions of light, climate, and bayside Melbourne.
Beckett’s paintings are revered for how they captured the essence of the Beaumaris streetscapes and Melbourne cityscapes in varying light and weather conditions, as well as atmospheric vistas towards the waters of Port Phillip Bay. She painted the “atmosphere” as she saw and felt it at the water’s edge, on the street, and in the landscape.
