This Artback NT touring exhibition surveys the ceramic practices of thirty-two Indigenous artists and communities of the central desert region – Ernabella Arts at Pukatja, South Australia, and Hermannsburg Potters at Ntaria, Northern Territory.
Works connect place, material and culture, reflecting ancestral stories, settler histories, and contemporary experiences – from the Hermannsburg Potters’ large terracotta pot, audiovisual work and series of painted tiles depicting seasonal life and landscape to Bronwyn Field’s escarpment vessels, remnants of early colonial pottery items, to Em Frank’s reference to bush “cuppa” tea.
