McDonald’s paintings depict animal and human forms, from parakeets to Mick Jagger. His distinct painting style portrays a psychological sense of being and an understanding of what it means to be animal or human.
These works, influenced by photography, landscape, architecture and the media, are raw, gutsy and dynamic. The subject matter portrays a tension, energy, and drama in an environment of stillness. The works are vulnerable and contemplative, presenting a private world that extends to the viewer.
