Dominik Mersch Gallery has announced a new initiative, the ‘Dominik Mersch Gallery Curator Award’. The award aims to give aspiring and emerging curators a platform for their early work but also provide young curators exposure to working in the context of a commercial art gallery.

Director and founder of the gallery and this initiative, Dominik Mersch, see the award as “an opportunity for entering curators to explore the galleries existing idiosyncratic themes while encouraging them to express their unique narrative style”, he says.

While many emerging artist awards and scholarships exist in the commercial gallery space, Mersch saw a gap in the landscape for aspiring and emerging curators. The award invites these curators to explore their own perceptions and expertise in response to the brief (which is available on the gallery’s website). DMG urges entering curators to explore the galleries existing idiosyncratic themes while encouraging them to express their unique narrative style.

The applications will be judged by a panel including Dominik Mersch, Gallery Director and Glenn Barkley, independent curator and artistic director of Art Month 2015. The winning curator will be given a show in the DMG Exhibition Calendar 2015. The curator will work with the gallery team to realise the proposed exhibition concept. The exhibition will be supported through all the gallery forums with promotional material, event facilitation and support, client-base as well as logistics.

Applications are now being received for this terrific initiative, with the final date for submission being 31 March, 2015. Download the application pack for full details and definitions of the brief and eligibility.
