Emily Hartley-Skudder: Fourth Wall

New Zealand-based artist Emily Hartley-Skudder collects, assembles and photographs found objects, experimenting with, and observing the disparate realms of the real world before creating new representations in paint expressing aspects of the everyday. ‘Fourth Wall’ divides illusion and reality, the actual and the artificial. The works include cross sections of a stage, a showroom, a doll’s house, and a dressed set. Folded edges and shadows of simple paper set-ups, combined with real-life objects bring the artist’s practice full-circle.
