Entries now open for the churchie emerging art prize 2023⁠

the churchie emerging art prize has provided a platform to profile the next generation of contemporary artists from across Australia since its inception in 1987 at Anglican Church Grammar School, East Brisbane.⁠ In 2023 the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) present the thirty-fifth edition of the prize, marking the fifth presentation partnership between the two organisations.⁠

Have questions about the application process? Keen to check out the gallery where your work might be presented? Join for an information session at IMA, where they will run you through all things related to applying for ‘the churchie’. Hear from the 2023 emerging guest curator Sebastian Henry-Jones, who will share his thoughts on the Prize and his personal approach to curation. Following Henry-Jones’ remarks there will be a Q&A session where you can connect with the IMA team and ask questions about the application process.

Entries for the churchie emerging art prize 2023⁠ close 5pm (AEST⁠), Monday 13 March.

⁠Thanks to generous supporters, ‘the churchie’ offers a prize pool of $25,000, with the overall winner receiving a non-acquisitive $15,000 cash prize donated by long-standing sponsor, BSPN Architecture.⁠ Finalists will be selected based on the strength of their practice and will work with the guest curator Sebastian Henry-Jones to determine work/s to be exhibited in the finalists’ exhibition at IMA,  from 20 May to 19 August 2023.
