Dangerously Modern: Australian women artists in Europe 1890–1940

Dangerously Modern is the first major exhibition to focus on the vital role of Australian women in the development of international modernism – featuring fifty artists and over 200 artworks.

Celebrating Australian women in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, who prevailed against centuries of social constraints to pursue international careers and belonged to a wave of women journeying from Australia through Europe and beyond; works on show range from large public statements to private portrait miniatures. On show at Art Gallery of New South Wales from October 2025.
