bagan bariwariganyan: echoes of country

This collaborative site-specific project between First Nations artists Aunty Cheryl Davison, Aunty Julie Freeman and Jonathan Jones features a large-scale architectural gunyah structure made from Bundanon’s turpentine trees; a seventy-five-metre mural wrapping around the gallery walls to illustrate the South Coast’s physical and cultural landscape; a suite of paintings documenting maternal stories of plants, animals and weather patterns from across the region; an installation of hand-woven baskets, and a four-panel screenprint. Soundscapes of local waters, stories spoken in the local language, and Cockatoo birdsong connect each exhibition space.
