Sarah Contos: MoTH-eRR

Sarah Contos uses diverse materials and methods of making. In MoTH-eRR, complexities and contradictions inherent in the human condition are expressed through the organ of the womb, exemplifying its duality as both a life-growing space and an uncanny void.

German expressionist cinema inspired Contos’ video, in which distinctive stylistic features – including unconventional compositions and dark themes – suggest feelings of inner turmoil and childbirth as a speculative experience. Generative software loops and manipulates imagery to create a hallucinogenic narrative – depicting three chapters in the fictional lifecycle of a human-hybrid moth.
