Jennifer Herd: Off Country

Mbararrum artist Jennifer Herd is known for a distinctive pin-holing technique and geometric shield patterning on paper. Exploring themes of cultural memory, identity and resistance, Herd’s work is delicately composed yet deeply political.

Featuring thirty-five works, Off Country marks a personal shift in focus. Whereas previous exhibitions illuminated the veiled history of frontier resistance, particularly in the region of her mother’s country in North Queensland, these new works also turn inward; Herd’s experiences of displacement, identity erasure and resilience are reflected on, while cultural reconnection and community is celebrated.
