Stuffed, Bolstered and Upholstered

Presented as part of IOTA24, this exhibition explores fibre and woven forms in relation to the human body.

Contemporary makers innovate using the traditions of old as they create pieces that critique power dynamics. The concept utilises a broad definition of fibre and textiles to include paintings on linen and canvas, irregular and convention-defying paintings such as Rossy Drake Brockman’s upholstered painting, installations including Zanny Begg’s Military tattoo series, stitched works such as Teelah George’s large-scale embroidery, Blue Biro, and clothing and costumes, including the masks of Jody Quackenbush.
