In this multimedia exhibition, local artist Steffie Yee explores what it means to grow up Chinese–Australian in a regional community, capturing the imaginative play and joy to be found within the frenetic settings of a family-run Chinese restaurant in Branxton.
Her Malaysian–Chinese parents having served customers for over forty years, the restaurant was the backbone of Yee’s childhood. Life behind the counter is captured through hand-drawn sketches and storyboards, local oral histories, stop-motion animation, retro ephemera, and restaurant memorabilia, in a nostalgic love letter to an artist’s childhood.
